Keep Mosquitoes Away From You: 4 Do’s And Don’ts

In summer, it’s hard to fall asleep at night because of the fear that someone is looking for a chance to feast on you. Yes, the tiny creatures are known as mosquitoes. If you have no idea how these insects go about feasting on you, you can use the following do’s and don’ts to keep them away from you. This will help you have sound sleep at night.

Do: Use the power of wind

If the breeze is over 1Mph, mosquitoes will find it hard to fly. So, if you choose a breezy place for your outing, you will be good. Aside from this, you can use plug-in fans in order to do the same trick. All you have to do is direct the flow of air at your lower half.

Don’t: Use citronella candles or other coils

Although oils, such as citronella can repel insects, they work only when the smoke or scent is between you and the tiny creatures. So, if you light the tiki torches a couple of meters off the ground, mosquitoes won’t go away. What you need to do is plant these plants in your backyard.

Do: avoid eating some foods

To reach the food sources, mosquitoes use carbon dioxide or CO2. When your heart beats fast, you produce more of CO2. So, if you drink alcohol, get exercise or eat spicy stuff, your metabolic rate will go up and you will produce more of the gas. As a result, you will become irresistible to the creatures. Therefore, you may not want to get involved in these activities before bedtime.

Don’t: Eat These foods or supplements

According to some people, eating garlic, bananas or vitamin B supplements may repel mosquitoes. However, the truth is that no good will come out of these things as far as repelling mosquitoes is concerned.

Do: Put on tightly woven Clothing

According to experts, mosquitoes can’t get into clothing that is tightly woven. Although cotton and linen are not good at keeping the bugs away, you can use some synthetic fibers to achieve the purpose. Aside from this, garment that can be used for sun protection can also do the job very well.

Don’t: Use ultrasonic devices

In the market, you can find lots of apps and devices that claim to repel mosquitoes. Some of the devices produce the sound of dragonflies. But don’t buy them as they don’t work.

Do: Use these colors

Mosquitoes look at things to look for food sources, especially during the day. Since they don’t fly so high, they find the sources by searching for stuff based on the contrast level. To them, dark colors are more prominent and the light colors are not that attractive. So, you may want to put on light colors.

Don’t: Use mouthwash

According to some people, Listerine repels the bugs since mouthwash has eucalyptol. And eucalyptol is a common ingredient in bug replants. Aside from this, Triclosan is another common mouthwash ingredient, which is associated with malaria prevention. However, research proved that mouthwash can’t ward off these creatures.

So, these are some do’s and don’ts if you want to get rid of mosquitoes at night.
